I have worked in social care for nearly 30 years and have loved every minute of it. I opened Silver Springs in 2013, and being able to use my own experience to achieve goals and new and exciting experiences for the people we support is very special to me. Our care teams across the company, senior staff and managers are also very hard-working and do an amazing job, and that’s what makes Silver Springs a special place to work.

I spent 6 months working in the USA (Des Moines in Iowa) with adults with learning difficulties and children with critical illness. The experience was amazing, and this is what inspired me to make a career in supporting adults with disabilities.
-
Spending time with my family, walking my chocolate lab called Scooby doo, travelling and most of all, Rugby, that’s watching, not playing! You will often see me watching my local rugby club on Saturday when I’m off.

I really value seeing people we support achieve goals in their lives, having new experiences and being supported to make a contribution to and be a valued member of their local community. I enjoy the variety of my work as every day is different.
-
I was once a Dutch national champion (both team and individual) in football rules. We then went on to beat the national amateur referees champion (again, both team and individual champion).
-
I like photography, cycling and music (a very broad taste in music).

What makes working at Silver Springs truly meaningful for me is the opportunity to support service users in leading fulfilling lives, despite their disabilities. It’s about helping them be part of the wider community without barriers, fostering inclusion and a sense of belonging.
-
I love rollercoasters, and I rode the world's fastest, tallest rollercoaster in America.

The one thing that stands out for me when I think about Silver Springs Support is that working for them is not just about providing a much needed quality service, it is the passion and commitment from everyone which creates that sense of achievement when empowering our service users to lead fulfilling lives whilst thriving through achievement and growth. It really is like working within a family, rather than a business.

Working for Silver Springs is particularly meaningful to me because it allows me to contribute to creating an environment that is genuinely safe, welcoming, and inclusive for everyone connected to the service, our service users, their families and friends, and our staff team. What makes this especially rewarding is that this ethos is embedded not only in larger initiatives, but in the day-to-day experiences of those within the service. Through everyday tasks and shared living, we promote dignity, comfort, and a sense of belonging, ensuring that individuals feel valued and supported in all aspects of their lives. In addition, being involved in organising and hosting key events, such as our annual summer BBQ, further strengthens relationships and fosters a strong sense of community. These occasions provide meaningful opportunities for connection, enjoyment, and inclusion, which are central to what makes Silver Springs such a special place to work.

One thing people may be surprised to learn about me is that I have a background in coaching gymnastics, specifically working with children and adults with learning and physical disabilities. I was also incredibly fortunate to receive the opportunity to coach the Welsh Gymnastics Special Olympic squad for a couple of years, where I supported individuals to develop their skills, achieve their personal goals, and ultimately represent Wales at The Special Olympics GB National Summer Games. This experience has been both rewarding and influential in shaping my approach to supporting others.
-
In my free time, I enjoy spending quality time with my two children, particularly through local days out where we can relax and enjoy time together. I also enjoy cooking and baking for family and friends, whether that’s preparing roast dinners, hosting BBQ's, or creating special occasion cakes. I find this both rewarding and relaxing, as it brings people together and is something that genuinely makes me feel happy.
